Taylor Swift released her third album “Speak Now” today, October 25.

The 20-year-old told MTV News she has been working on the project for two years and wrote each of the 14 songs herself. All the songs are based on real people from her life, according to an interview with the Wall Street Journal.

Swift explained that some artists are inspired to produce albums after their life experiences. “But I sort of write as life is happening to me, so all of these songs are snapshots of what I was feeling at that moment,” she said.

The singer-songwriter told MTV News the inspiration for the album title came from the song “Speak Now” which is about interrupting an ex-boyfriend’s wedding at the point where the preacher says “Speak now or forever hold your peace.”

“I think is an incredible metaphor for all these situations we find ourselves in, in life: when we wait until it’s almost too late to say how we feel,” she explained.

Swift’s last album, “Fearless,” was released in 2008, later becoming the top-selling album of 2009.
