The Taliban claimed on Sunday that it has killed one U.S. sailor and captured another.
Two U.S. sailors went missing on Friday while driving through a dangerous part of Logar province, which is controlled by militants.
The disappearance of serviceman prompted NATO to set up a large-scale search operation, including checkpoints and spreading photos of the missing sailors.
While NATO has confirmed that the two sailors went missing, it has not confirmed the capture and killing, or why the two men were traveling through the Taliban controlled area.
Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid, told the Associated Press on Sunday that they killed one of the Americans in a brief gunfight and captured the other, and that both are “in the hands of the Taliban” now.
