Squinching in photos is the latest thing after a New York portraitist said that it is “the secret facial expression that can make anyone look more photogenic.”

“It’s all about the jaw,” he said.

Squinching isn’t the same as squinting, emphasizes the portraitist, Peter Hurley, in his YouTube video.

Squinting has both the top and bottom eyelids closed; squinching has the lower eyelid lifting and tightening, only allowing the top eyelid to come down slightly.

“If you’re a photographer out there, make your people squinch,” Hurley advised. “And if you’re a human being who just wants to look hot, this is going to do it for you.

“Want to know why? Because confidence comes from the eyes.”
