Spaghetti tacos have become somewhat of a sensation among children after the Nickelodeon series iCarly showcased the culinary invention.

The show’s creator Dan Schneider said that he was surprised that the strange food item caught on among kids.

“It was just a little joke I came up with for one episode,” Schneider told the New York Times. “Then it turned into a running joke. And now it’s this thing people actually do.”

The tacos were first prepared on the show by Spencer, the brother of Carly.

Brooklyn mom Jennifer Burns said that her son requested the delicacy, to which she laughed.

“I thought he was joking,” Burns told the Times. “But then he kept asking.”

The spaghetti taco “combination seems to be an inevitability, sort of like chocolate and peanut butter running into each other on that Reese’s commercial,” said Robert Thompson, a professor of popular culture at Syracuse University in New York.

“The amazement should be only that it took ‘iCarly’ to bring it into our melting pot of a culture,” he said, adding that “it’s a very important technological development. You don’t even need a plate.”
