Soul music singer Al Goodman from The Moments, later renamed Ray, Goodman & Brown, died of heart failure at the age of 63 during surgery to remove a tumor at Hackensack Medical Center in New Jersey, according to his daughter, Rhonda Goodman, CNN reported.

Hackensack is where Goodman , Harry Ray and William Brown founded The Moments in 1968. Two years later, they topped the soul charts with “Love on a Two Way Street” and again in 1975 with “Look at Me (I’m in Love).” In 1979, one year after renaming the trio, they hit No. 1 with “Special Lady.”

The group made regular appearances on the soul charts into the 1980s. Their last Top Ten single was in 1986.

Soul music site Soultrackers described R, G & B as being a group with outstanding stage presence. The site compared the group with many bands of that era with more successful recording careers, and praised the consistent crowd-pleasing quality of their live concerts.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, August 2 at John Harms/Bergen PAC Theatre in Englewood, New Jersey. A wake will preced the service at 9:00 am.
