It’s not that Trick of the Night is an inherently bad album, its just that it is difficult to get excited about.

It starts off promisingly enough, sounding quite different to anything else you’ll hear this year. With its eerie atmospherics conjured by the wavering vocals of Ben Rogers and David Greenep, this is music for a haunted house.

However this is simply not enough to carry the album and unfortunately it lacks the exciting qualities of a Tom Waits or Wild Beasts where warped deliveries are complemented by incredible songs.

‘Four Leaved Clover’ is lovely enough but overall it won’t live long in the memory despite its unique sound.
