Hospital Superintendent: Superlative Performance Helps to Elevate Social Morality

March 11, 2009 Updated: March 16, 2009

The New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts toured Tainan, Taipei, and Taichung successively, achieving a box-office success in all three locations. On March 10, Shen Yun staged its first show in Chiayi. Professor Lin Shinnzong attended this performance.

Professor Lin Shinnzong, former superintendent of the Tzu-Chi Hospital in Hualian and newly designated superintendent of the China Medical University Beigang Hospital, watched the Shen Yun performance together with a colleague.

As a doctor who concerns himself with his patients' physical and mental health, Lin Shinnzong puts stress on the relationship between physical health and decent conduct. Lin highly praised the show.

“Such a superlative performance helps to elevate social morality. It’s very good! This is the essence of ancient Chinese culture,” he said.

For the first time in his life Lin Shinnzong saw male dancers perform frontier ethnic dancing with advanced skills, diversity, and masculinity. “Masculine and vigorous movements of the male dancers deeply inspired and impressed viewers.”

“Shen Yuns singing and choreography are really good.” Overall, Lin Shinnzong thought, “The Shen Yun performance is very creative. Its costumes and choreography are intended to produce the visual effects of being slim and graceful. Viewers are impressed with the beauty of culture and art.”

The principal objective of the China Medical University Beigang Hospital is to treat patients with “warmth typical of Beigang and affection of Mazu the goddess of the sea.” The newly designated superintendent Lin Shinnzong follows this creed: A doctor should concern himself with a patient’s physical and mental health; with everyone’s love and kindness, tasks can be accomplished. Professor Lin hopes that those around him can extend kindness by offering financial support and help to the needy.

Lin Shinnzong thinks that Shen Yun promotes authentic Chinese culture, presents profundity of traditional culture through the performance onstage, and conveys the essence of human art and culture. Such a performance, as authentic and profound as it is, is worthy of recommendation, Lin said.
