Shen Yun Performing Arts arrived in Arizona for the 2018 season on Feb. 6, starting a run of 15 performances spanning three cities, and delighting audience members such as Steve Kates. The well-known radio and television host attended Shen Yun on the evening of Feb. 23 at the Orpheum Theater in Phoenix, Arizona.
Mr. Kates, also know as Dr. Sky, has been involved in the science of astronomy for many years. He is the president of DrSky.com, Inc., a video and audio production company that focuses on astronomy, space, aviation and weather.
“I do television and radio around the country, and this is my third time coming to Shen Yun, and I also helped promote this particular event on my shows. That’s how much I like it,” he said.
Mr. Kates said he appreciates that Shen Yun produces a new performance each year, so it’s unique and different every single time, with new dances, new music, and “new energy.” He was happy to see a packed audience attending the performance.
“Beautiful dance, beautiful people, beautiful culture. ... It makes me feel invigorated. You feel like you’re lifted out of your seat. I think it’s just totally incredible.”
The television and radio personality also said it’s important for more people to understand that China is one of the oldest civilizations in the world, and to experience that history and culture through events like Shen Yun.
“I love this particular show, because it brings out so much of the spirituality that I think this world needs right now,” Mr. Kates said.
“The way I look at Shen Yun, it’s a heavenly experience. I have never seen in my life so many amazing dancers, so many amazing and beautiful costumes, and so many amazing ways that we can share [this] spirituality.”
Mr. Kates said Shen Yun always gives him the feeling of an uplifting experience, which inspires him to look deep inside himself and consider what’s truly important in life.
“I think what we see here, I think helps answer some of those questions,” he said.
“I see a lot of shows,” said Mr. Kates. “I’m asked to speak about a lot of particular shows around the country and around the world, and I look at [Shen Yun] always as kind of a thing to look forward to, as so many people should.”
“I think that it’s something that everybody should experience.”
