MONTPELLIER, France—This weekend on March 20, while waiting for the beginning of spring, the Montpellier locals were able to enjoy the warmth of Shen Yun Performing Arts.

After the Shen Yun performance at  Le Corum, Fabrice Botella, assistant director in charge of security for a private railroad company, said the dancers displayed “exceptional synchronization ... and [it is] absolutely fundamental in the message it conveys, which is simple, effective and true.”
Shen Yun had inspired him, and he hoped that “the tradition continues to be passed on from generation to generation and the know-how continues to be protected internationally. ... And that we can always have young people who can carry the values and pass on these essential moments of life to everyone else and preserve them as much as possible.”

For Mr. Botella, the performance was a vector of values and a testimonial of behaviors we should all respect: “Humility, wisdom, respect. Although we can be in competition, we must always respect others. ... The worst hardships can occur for everyone, we need to remember that—then, of course, always try to help our fellow man.”

Shen Yun means “the beauty of divine beings dancing” and reveals through the dance stories, the connection of the Chinese people with the divine during the 5,000 years of China’s rich history.

Mr. Botella was very sensitive to this. “It is what allows man to remember that he may not be alone and that there is still a path we have to take. ... And we can say, may each one of us walks their own path—that will be good enough,” he said.

This desire to remain connected to the divine and to traditional values is still very much present in today’s China, but at what cost? The communist regime in China has been systematically working to destroy traditional culture since it took power in 1949.
A Shen Yun dance scene evokes the current persecution of Falun Gong practitioners by the Chinese communist regime.

From this touching depiction of courage, Mr.  Botella commented that “it may seem far from us, but it’s not that far. ... The human species is as it is, I would say, and without too much surprise, unfortunately, we all have the choice to do good or evil. Free will, when it’s on the wrong side, can lead to drama until the wheel turns on those who think they’re protected.”

Mr.  Botella shared that he thought that this Shen Yun performance should be seen by as many people as possible.

“I find that this show is intelligible and understandable, from the youngest generation to the oldest. ... In the current situation, freedom, and especially the right to express oneself, as well as tolerance, I think that we must especially take care of all that, whatever happens in the world”, he said.
