GUADALAJARA, Mexico—Social media influencers Fernanda Villafuerte-Cons and Diego Chavez Diaz were pleasantly surprised by how spiritual Shen Yun Performing Arts was when they attended the company’s second show at the Conjunto Santander Artes Escénicas, on the evening of May 7.
“Shen Yun was an amazing experience. From the very first moment that the show starts, you can feel the energy. You not only feel it, but you can see it [within] the excellence in everyone—like the movements, the music. Everything is just like synchronized to perfection, and you can really see and feel that they are doing it from the inside. You can feel the energy,” Mr. Diaz exclaimed.
As one of the oldest civilizations in the world, China’s 5,000 years of history are filled with breathtaking legends and rich traditions. Yet, within just a few decades of the Chinese communists’ rise to power, this magnificent culture was destroyed.
Ms. Villafuerte-Cons was mesmerized by the profound depth of traditional Chinese culture, and resonated deeply with the message the artists conveyed.
“I feel kindness, I feel hope. I like when they talk about the body and how you connect with the divine. It’s something that really stays in your heart and in your mind. I think the message is developing the spirit,” she said.
“We came here because of the culture, the dance, and the music, but we didn’t know about the spiritual [element] or the divine or the connection and meditation.”
However, Shen Yun’s commitment to reviving traditional culture and exposing the realities of life under communist rule in modern China has led the regime to ban the company from performing there. In fact, many of the company’s founding members were persecuted for their faith.
“Everything happens for a reason. We’re here, and we’re amazed,” Mr. Dias noted.
Shen Yun artists “are living that message that they’re trying to [share.] It’s not just like from the mouth and the outside—they’re living it. So, it’s amazing.”
