KAMAKURA, Japan—An admirer of Shen Yun Performing Arts, Nashimoto Koichi, has made seeing the company’s performance each year a personal tradition. On the afternoon of April 19, after much anticipation, he was once again in the audience at the Kamakura Performing Arts Center for Shen Yun’s fourth performance in the city.

Mr. Nashimoto, a project leader at a globally recognized IT company, said Shen Yun’s entirely new program each season continues to surprise him.

“I am deeply moved by the dancers—especially by the sheer wonder of seeing human beings perform such extraordinary feats of movement,” he said. “The way they jump and leap so high makes you marvel: is it truly possible for a human body to do that?”

He added that the dancers’ radiant smiles always leave a strong impression.

“Their expressiveness is incredibly rich and magnificent,” he said. “It’s difficult to put into words, but watching them somehow lifted my stress, and my whole body felt lighter. It was a truly wonderful sensation—leaving me feeling bright, warm, and uplifted.”

Another highlight for Mr. Nashimoto is Shen Yun’s live orchestra, renowned for blending Eastern and Western instruments. “After listening to the music, I felt as though my fatigue had been cleansed, and my mood became brighter,” he added.
He was especially impressed by the erhu solo: “I simply couldn’t believe that just two strings could produce such a wide range of timbres. It was absolutely magnificent. I closed my eyes as I listened, allowing myself to fully absorb the music—it was so captivating that I completely lost track of time.”
Based in New York, Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company, with a mission to revive 5,000 years of China’s divinely inspired heritage and share with audiences the beauty of “China before communism.”

As a Japanese audience member, Mr. Nashimoto expressed deep appreciation for this effort.

“China built a magnificent culture over its long history. However, following the rise of the Communist Party, atheism and evolutionism have caused this wonderful culture to fade,” he said. “Being able to witness it again in such a vivid way is truly moving.”

He particularly enjoyed the dance dramas that convey the idea that good deeds bring about positive outcomes.

“That’s the principle of cause and effect,” he said. “I learned it in moral education as a child. It’s not about expecting rewards, but about doing good simply because you want to be a good person.”

Shen Yun’s dance dramas also reveal the realities in present-day China, particularly the persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners. Falun Dafa, also known as Falun Gong, is a spiritual discipline and meditation practice based on the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance.

Mr. Nashimoto shared his thoughts on this tragic event, which has lasted nearly 27 years. “I am well aware of these issues, and I oppose them,” he said. “China as a country is not at fault, but I sincerely hope that the Chinese Communist Party—an outright evil entity—will disappear from this world as soon as possible.”
