PERTH, Australia—Shen Yun Performing Arts debuted at The Regal Theatre in Perth bringing people of all ages and occupations through its doors.

Company director Peter Grant and his wife Margaret left with happy hearts after seeing New York-based Shen Yun portray ancient China in a most spectacular way.

“It’s wonderful. Beautifully coloured, such a variety of colour in it. And the dancers are just superb,” Mr. Grant said.

He praised the classical Chinese dance and dance company for coming to Australia.

“I think it’s [Shen Yun] excellent for bringing it here to Australia so that the Australian people can see and try and understand the culture of China.”

Mrs Grant, who saw a promotional advertisement on the Internet, agreed with her husband.

“Our grand-daughter is Chinese. We didn’t bring her tonight, she would have loved it. So for us, it’s just lovely to see.”

Mr. Grant said Shen Yun conveys a sense of equality between cultures,“cross-cultural.”

“We all bleed the same, and we all feel the same emotions—just a wonderful thing.”

The couple also praised the Shen Yun Orchestra for its fusion of ancient Chinese and classical Western instruments.

“How nice it is to have an orchestra in the setting here,” Mrs. Grant said. “But it’s not recorded music. It’s live music, which is excellent.”

‘It’s the best 100 bucks I’ve ever spent’

Also in the audience was Jason Allan who comes from a background in property sales. He said he will come every year Shen Yun comes to Perth for the rest of his life. “It’s the best 100 bucks I’ve ever spent,” he said.

“The show is just fantastic. I’m blown away, absolutely blown away. I love the Chinese culture and what it stands for. It’s fantastic to be here.”

Mr. Allan described Shen Yun as being “very healthy.”

“When I say healthy, I mean everything just seems honest, trustworthy, healthy in every respect of the word. It is fantastic,” he said at intermission. “I feel really happy and energised. It is hard to explain … surreal, kind of overwhelming.”

Mr. Allan said everything about Shen Yun’s portrayal of China’s true culture is so beautiful.

“Absolutely mind blowing is the best way to explain it, the only way to explain it.”

Robyn Bartlett who describes herself best as an artist said she loved the whole of her Shen Yun experience at the Regal Theatre, on May 1.

“It was absolutely beautiful, I loved it. I loved the added dimension of the backdrop, and the way the characters disappeared and flew up into the sky, that was amazing.

“And I loved the live music, the colour, the costumes were fantastic. ... It was really clear to me what was happening in the stories, which often isn’t the case with dance.”

Ms. Bartlett said the two emcees who introduced each dance sequence helped clarify a story dance as well.

Aso she was aware that Shen Yun was currently unable to perform in China.

As the website explains, Falun Gong, also called Falun Dafa, is guided by the principles of “Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance.” It has helped over a hundred million Chinese people understand and return to the essence of traditional Chinese culture—Confucian, Buddhist, and Taoist schools of thought.

And yet, the Chinese Communist Party, whose regime and ideology are in stark contrast with the traditional culture of China, has targeted Falun Gong for persecution.
