TOOWOOMBA, Australia—The Garden City of Toowoomba was Shen Yun Performing Arts last stop in Queensland, and the beautiful Empire Theatre was the perfect venue. The evening performance on Monday, April 13, completely charmed the audience.
The classical Chinese dance captured the heart of Ms. Wilson, who had studied and performed classical ballet and also taught ballet. She attended the performance with her granddaughter, Bella.
“We thought it was beautiful, The colours of the costumes, the beautiful movements and the underlying message was very strong,” she said.
Ms. Wilson said that she felt the message in the performances very strongly, and summarised it, “To have the love and the understanding that today is important, because there is eternal life.”
Although she had seen Chinese opera before, she wasn’t familiar with Chinese culture and found it fascinating, particularly the spiritual component and the humour.
“I was extremely fascinated that in the culture they have so much humour,” she said, referring to the dance, The Monkey King Triumphs and the humour of the emcees. She also enjoyed the spring dance with the beautiful fans, Welcoming Spring.
The modern themes in the show impressed Ms. Wilson as being “upbeat” and she thought the story line was very clear through their dance.
Her granddaughter, Bella, was entranced by the dancing and costumes. “I want one of them,” she said, remembering the colourful full skirts in Dance of the Yi . “I had no idea about China’s culture, and I thought it was cool.”
Shen Yun will perform in Auckland, New Zeland on April 15–17 before returning to Australia for eight shows in Sydney.
