PHILADELPHIA—Shen Yun Performing Arts brought enchantment to Merriam Theater in Philadelphia Saturday afternoon.
Barbara Wallerstein, a retired visual artist and high school arts teacher, loved the mythology and ancient Chinese culture depicted in the Touring Company’s performance.
“[It’s] not the ordinary,” Ms. Wallerstein said.
New York-based Shen Yun seeks to revive the 5,000 years of Chinese culture in a series of classical Chinese dances which are interspersed with folk and ethnic dances.
“[Seeing] an artistic performance that is unusual, I’m transported to another realm, another world,” Ms. Wallerstein said. “To me, it’s the closest thing to heaven on earth. Everything is just uplifting and wonderful, and that’s how I felt immediately when the performance began.”
“It’s just so beautiful, it takes away all the ugliness in everyday life,” she said, adding, “I would recommend it to anybody who loves music and art.”
