YUANLIN, Taiwan—On March 24, Mr. Liu Zehong, principal of National Yuan-Lin Vocational High School of Home Economics and Business, attended the show of New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Yuanlin Performance Hall with several of his teaching staff. Principal Liu felt appreciative of the opportunity to attend the Shen Yun show, while Mrs. Liu took delight in the pleasant scenes and backdrops.

“Chinese worship heaven and model themselves after others,” said Principal Liu, who admired the meticulous arrangement of the Shen Yun programs. He said that the programs, from the initial emergence of the Yellow Emperor to Buddha, present not only the traditional temperament of Chinese but also the cultural profundity of various ethnic groups. He thought that the show encompasses different cultural elements.

The Yi people are thought to be descendants from the hometown of clouds. In the program Dance of the Yi, the Yi maidens in their rainbow-like skirts look like goddesses dancing in the human world.

Principal Liu was impressed with the kindness and beauty conveyed in Shen Yun’s dance and solos. “Singing and dancing are essential parts of human life. Through body language and vocal music, Shen Yun presents a fusion of beauty and compassion. I really admire their performance.”

The program Flowing Sleeves depicts elegance, majestic bearing, and the feminine grace of ancient Chinese women.

Mr. Liu was fascinated with the perfect fusion of costumes and dance in Flowing Sleeves: “Dancers spin their long, flowing sleeves to form a flower so as to express the natural beauty of all objects on earth. The spinning, flowing sleeves look like a flying flower in the air. Designs of the costumes and backdrops are creative, while their colors match perfectly.”

Apart from feminine grace, Mr. Liu was also attracted by masculinity and beauty of male dancers. “The male dancers’ body language presents masculinity. The combination of masculinity and femininity reveals harmony between rhyme and rhythm. Femininity and masculinity perfectly fuse.

“The program Heaven Awaits Us Despite Persecution touched numerous members of the audience. Mr. Liu said, “At the end of the program about persecution, a god seen as a symbol of justice appears to guide us through darkness and adversity.

“As a Chinese saying goes, ‘Evil can never prevail over good,’” said Mr. Liu. In his opinion, Shen Yun came as a beacon light for modern people.
