TAINAN, Taiwan—On the evening of April 1, the New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts premiered in Tainan, drawing enthusiastic applause for its elegant and impeccable performance. Fifty-seven winners of the Excellence Teaching Award were invited to see Shen Yun by the Tainan County Government. Among them was Principal Li Suzhen, who had been awarded the Excellence Teaching Award in 1992. Ms. Li said that the show enabled her to realize the profundity of truthfulness, compassion and forbearance.

Watching the show for the first time, Li Suzhen said that she had heard of Shen Yun’s success and that Shen Yun had really lived up to its name. She said, “Programs like Lanterns, Flowing Silk and Imperial Archers really depict masculinity and beauty. With their silken sleeves flowing softly through the air, the slim dancers move their steps gracefully, swaying their slender waist, as if real goddesses were descending down to the world. It’s really beautiful.”

Li Suzhen also marveled at the perfect cooperation and tacit understanding between the Shen Yun orchestral accompaniment and dance. Enraptured by aesthetics of performing arts, Ms. Li said excitedly, “It’s so beautiful! Whether it is spiritual beauty, artistic beauty, or musical beauty, it’s so beautiful! The performer’s hand gestures and step movements display the acme of masculinity and beauty.”

She said she could feel the hard work behind the production and was very touched. Drawing upon classical Chinese dance and dance of Chinese ethnic groups, the Shen Yun dance presents pure kindness and pure beauty of ancient Chinese culture. Accordingly, audiences of all races could embrace and grasp the spirit of Chinese culture.

Li Suzhen said, “Shen Yun presents the essence of Chinese culture, like the fusion of all ethnic groups. The tolerance attitude is as peaceful as the sea that takes in hundreds of rivers. Each human being should adopt a loving, considerate and tolerant attitude toward one another. We could see such profound essence of Chinese culture, presented through the very beautiful art of dance. It’s really very touching.”

After seeing the Shen Yun premiere in Tainan, Li Suzhen said, “I will recommend it to my friends and other teachers so that they too can appreciate such a spiritual feast. Because this is spiritual advancement and progress. It really purifies the mind.”

Awarded the Excellence Teaching Award in 1992 and honored as an excellent teacher by the Tainan County government in 1987, Li Suzhen now is the principal of Tainan County Matou Elementary School.
