This coming weekend, April 8-10, Shen Yun Performing Arts will be in Seattle for five performances at Marion Oliver McCaw Hall at the Seattle Center.

Seattle Mayor Edward B. Murray issued a proclamation welcoming Shen Yun, saying, “Shen Yun inspires millions through its universal message and profound spirit, transcending language and time to bring the wisdom and magic of Chinese culture to life.”

Established in New York in 2006, Shen Yun was started by a group of leading classical Chinese artists with a wish “to revive the true, divinely inspired culture of China and share it with the world,” according to the company website.

Through the universal language of performing arts, Shen Yun has brought back the best of these traditions.

This revival has touched the hearts of many people in Seattle in recent years. Susan Moon, a retired educator said she’s seen the performance seven times, and she’s still more impressed each and every time. “Every year I get more out of it,” she said.

“It’s really actually hard to find the words,” Ms. Moon added. “When the curtain goes up, I’m almost in tears because it’s so exquisite and so beautiful—the dancers and costumes, and the music.”

Lorraine Scherer, a finance manager said, “If you’ve never seen it, go see it; if you’ve seen it, go see it again.”

“Masterpiece,” said Scott Carmack, senior security engineer at Amazon.com, at Seattle’s Marion Oliver McCaw Hall. “It appeals to all the senses.”

“It was really wonderful!” said Sharlene Cooper, who is now retired from Safeco Insurance, where she worked in the marketing department for 29 years.

“It has a very peaceful effect when you’re watching it,” added Ms. Cooper. “You just feel at peace, and you see the beauty of the performances. And it just makes you really want to drink it in.”

Shen Yun traverses five continents, visits more than 100 cities, and performs on the most prestigious stages reaching countless numbers of people each year with a new performance. The 2016 journey in Seattle promises to transport you to the lost world of ancient China.
