LODZ, Poland—Have you ever heard of Lodz, or “Woodsh,” as the Poles pronounce it? Well, if you are in the film industry, you might have, for the city is home to Poland´s oldest and most famous film school, which graduated Roman Polanski among at least six other Oscar winners and nominees.

From today on, the city might also be proud of being the first Polish city to hold a show from Shen Yun Performing Arts—and what a show it was! Giving lots of applause right from the opening curtain, the audience thanked the artists with rhythmic applause during Dance of the Yi and other dances, and gave the performers a standing ovation after the show.

Some came from far away cities like Warsaw or Cracow to see China´s traditional culture unfold before their eyes. Among the people who watched the show in Lodz´s Grand Theater (Teatr Wielki Lodz) was Mr. Ozdoba, who owns a building company. He was very touched by what he saw and heard.

“I liked it all, the costumes, the dance, the music, everything was nice. The performances were very beautiful, especially the one about Falun Gong [Heaven Awaits Us Despite Persecution]. That is something, I think that also related with our culture. I think this was the most outstanding dance. It tells a story. Probably it was the spiritual message that made it most understandable for us.”

Audience members cried “Bravo!,” during tenor Hong Ming’s solo. Some gasped and cried “Ah!” during moments of the show, and burst into applause during lively dances like Dragon Springs Drummers.
