PHOENIX—“The live orchestra was brilliant,” said Mr. Janicki, a student who is studying music production. He liked the complete mix of different types of genres bringing in both a Chinese and Western influence.

Ms. Olney, who has a theater and orchestral background and has spent six years playing in an orchestra, described the show as “fantastic.

“It was totally different, I definitely liked every part of it.” With her musical background, she appreciated the mix of Chinese and Western instruments.

The tumbling appealed to Mr. Janicki. He described the performances as “powerful.”

Spirituality was “incorporated with the music,” said Ms. Olney, adding that it showed that China’s spiritual history was the source of all their morals and beliefs.

Ms. Olney said that he values of [traditional] Chinese culture could be seen in the way they showed respect for their elders as illustrated by Mulan. Different morals were portrayed and the performance showed the relationship between Chinese culture and modern life.

The show illustrated virtues such as filial piety, respect for parents, and compassion, in Mr. Janicki’s view.

“No matter what you believe, I think anybody can enjoy this experience, [according to one’s personal understanding],” said Ms. Olney.

Mr. Janicki agreed. “Anyone can enjoy it despite what your views are or what your beliefs are. It is a very welcoming experience, especially as it is universal.”
