He had been invited by a friend to the show at the concert hall, Konsert & Kongress. The idea was for him to “see something beautiful and get some inspiration.”
Mr. Braune was particularly moved by the scene that depicted the persecution of Falun Gong in China, titled Heaven Awaits Us Despite Persecution.
“I’m very moved, it was unbelievably beautiful”, he said during the intermission.
The scene Heaven Awaits Us Despite Persecution depicts the persecution of spiritual practice of Falun Dafa in China. He said he was moved almost to the point of tears while watching the performance.
“As an author, I exist in the realm of the imagination, and it is good to see that there are people who keep fighting for their right to art and imagination, despite oppression”, he said.
Mr. Braune emphasized that there is a quiet oppression going on around the world.
“Not just against Falun Gong, but also against imagination everywhere in the world,” he said.
He thinks that it’s “obvious” that culture and art is facing cutbacks all over the world.
“Faced with this, it’s really great that there are people who promote [traditional] Chinese culture like this. It’s an incredibly vast and deep source, since it’s almost 5,000 years of high culture and, we get the essence of all that here today. It gives you inspiration, both to live and to create,” he said.
Apart from the dance and the choreography he also commended the local organizers of the Shen Yun show, as well as the staff at Konsert & Kongress.
“It all seems incredibly well arranged!” he concluded.
