GREENSBORO, N.C.—Shen Yun Performing Arts made its debut in Greensboro for the first time this year at the War Memorial Auditorium on Friday night.

Mr. Hooimeijer and Ms. Soemida were among the bedazzled audience watching the performance of the New York-based company.

“It was very nice, very beautiful,” said Mr. Hooimeijer, who is president of a company that makes industrial machinery.

“Everything, the dancing, the clothing, the scenery, the themes, the history, it’s all very interesting,” he said.

The guiding mission of Shen Yun is to rediscover and renew humanity’s true, rightful cultural heritage. The company presents classical Chinese dance, a rich and sophisticated form of art several millennia old, to audiences around the globe.

Mr. Hooimeijer, who says he makes occasional trips to China, said he is somewhat familiar with the history of China and said he recommends all Chinese to see Shen Yun to learn more about their history and culture.

“I think it is important for everybody to know his history and culture, so I think it’s good for Chinese to see what the history of their country is,” he said.

Ms. Soemida, who used to be a dancer herself and has done ballet in the past, said the Shen Yun artists were very professional and was amazed by their performance.

“I saw that they are doing a good job, such a big group,” she said.

“All their steps, everything is well done. The whole thing is very professional.”

Shen Yun Performing Arts will be holding two shows starting September 19 in Portland, Maine.
