EDMONTON, Canada—Shen Yun Performing Arts International Company will be stopping in Edmonton, Canada’s “Festival City”, on April 5 as part of its Western Canada tour.

Edmonton, the capital of the province of Alberta, is known for hosting world-class festivals year-round and is home to over 20 theatre companies. The city is also home to West Edmonton Mall, the largest shopping mall in North America.

To show her support of the show, local MP Rona Ambrose, Federal Minister of Public Works and Government Services, issued a letter thanking the local organizers for bringing Shen Yun to Edmonton and said, “I know that everyone who attends will enjoy the outstanding talents of Shen Yun Performing Arts troupe as they showcase their traditional Chinese artistry and culture.”

Federal MP Laurie Hawn, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Defence, also issued a statement extending his “warmest greetings to everyone at the world’s most stunning cultural stage production presented by Shen Yun Performing Arts.”

This is the fourth year that Shen Yun will be visiting Edmonton. Brent Rathgeber, MP from Edmonton-St. Albert, issued a statement congratulating Shen Yun for its “achievement in the performing arts” and recognized the dance company for its “exceptional display of Chinese culture”.

Alberta MLA Ron Liepert also offered his best wishes for the event in a statement and said ‘The show is a celebration of Chinese culture demonstrating the rich heritage and the traditional values that go along with it.”

David Swann, Alberta MLA and leader of the Official Opposition of Alberta wrote that he is “pleased and honored to bring warm greetings on behalf of my caucus colleagues and the province of Alberta to all those attending and involved” with the show.

He noted that this is the fourth year the dance company is coming to Alberta and said the show this year “promises to be another spectacular exhibition of Chinese dance and artistry.”

Stuart Houston, the Mayor of City of Spruce Grove, wished Shen Yun “a successful performance” and said, “by sharing your culture with others, you bring us into your world, and for this we are grateful.”

Cathy Olesen, Mayor of Strathcona County, also welcomed Shen Yun and noted that, “This is the fourth year resident’s of our community and those in our area are able to see classical Chinese dance and music performed by Shen Yun Performing Arts.”

Earlier in the season when Shen Yun was touring in Eastern Canada, Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Jason Kenney sent letters to congratulate Shen Yun on their Canadian tour.

“Inspired by more than 5,000 years of Chinese culture, this event offers patrons the opportunity to enjoy incredible choreography, which combines magnificent costumes, graceful dances and outstanding musical compositions that bring to life traditional Chinese myths and legends,” wrote Mr. Harper.

Mr. Kenney wrote, “By attending an event such as Shen Yun Performing Arts, we are all given the opportunity to share and appreciate the various traditions of our families, friends and neighbors.”
