DRESDEN, Germany—Recently turning 800-years-old, Dresden, one of Europe’s cultural centres, welcomed Shen Yun Performing Arts 2009 World Tour to bring a different cultural experience to the Germans for one night only, Tuesday, April 14.

Mrs. Baddura, Oriental and Middle Eastern Dance Academy director, teacher, and dancer, was very interested to see what special qualities the Shen Yun dancers bought to the stage.

“The dance was very impressive. You could notice the combination ... of the artistic side and the dance side. One could notice that they were truly, very well trained dancers, who really understand their tools. And that, in combination with the wonderful movements from Chinese dance, is truly an experience,” she said.

Classical Chinese dance has as its foundation China’s divinely inspired 5,000-year-old culture. The unique art of Chinese dance that we know today, with its impressive scale and system, is the product of generations of dancers’ many years of artistic experience combined with their refining, reorganizing, and reworking the art form.

It is the deeper resonances of traditional Chinese culture, however, that imbue a dancer’s movements with such rich expressive power. The dancer is thus capable of not only portraying a given figure’s disposition or mood, but even the vivid expressions unique to a certain age, whatever the land or time.

“I could see the ... expression. it is something unique,” she said.

Being a trained theatre pedagogue, Mrs. Buddara enjoyed watching this production for it’s artistic and creative attributes and the dazzling effects it bought to the eye.

“It was impressive, a big inspiration, since I am an artist, I enjoy watching such performances. Also, great costumes, great colors,” she said.
