WASHINGTON—On Feb. 12, 2009, the curtain rose for the Divine Performing Arts (DPA) New York Company’s second performance at Washington’s famous Kennedy Center. The internationally acclaimed show attracted people from political, financial, and artistic circles, as well as Chinese people, and those from all walks of life.

On this night, about one hundred Chinese people took buses from New York to come to see the show, and afterwards gave vibrant expression to what they said were the wonderful and joyous feelings they experienced from the performance.

One man identifying himself as Peter said he’d already seen the performance quite a few times and used a Chinese idiom to say, “I would not tire of watching it one hundred times!”

He said, “The artistic standard of this performance is very high; the performers are simply remarkable.”

He added that that while watching this example of 5,000 years of Chinese culture, he had a feeling of great pride, and thought that the performance carried the heartfelt wishes of the Chinese people.

Mr. Sun also saw the performance and said, “This program unfolds the special characteristics of Chinese culture before the audiences’ eyes, along with traditional Chinese art. I never thought that I would see here the many programs that cannot be seen in mainland China.”

Another Chinese gentleman commented, “Congratulations to the Divine Performing Arts company for the success of their performance. Their show displayed beautiful artistry. Being able to enter the Kennedy Center is itself a great achievement.” He said he would like to see Divine Performing Arts also perform in Vienna.

The president of the Chinese World Democratic Alliance, Mr. Wang Jun, was also one of the hundred who made the trip from New York. He said, “Today, early in the morning, everyone hurried from New York to Washington to see Divine Performing Arts. It’s all because their performances are so enchanting.”
