DENVER—Warm exuberant applause greeted Shen Yun Performing Arts as it completed the first of three shows in Denver on Saturday afternoon, April 17. The company has returned to the Mile High City’s Buell Theatre for the third consecutive year, delighting families and theater fans.

Business Owner Isaac Butler, of Denver suburb Lakewood, found the performance to be “really entertaining.” Mt. Butler, who is a partner in a pre-employment screening and data company, brought his wife Brandy, and his daughter Adrianna to the Saturday matinee.

“I enjoy the culture…I’m enjoying the dancing. My daughter is a dancer, so this is enjoyable for her as well.”

When asked at intermission if anything in particular struck him from the first half, he quickly singled out the dance number entitled The Tibetan Dance of Praise.

“Something captured me about that. The long flowing arms and the interaction amongst them.”

In this dance, set amongst the snow-capped peaks of the Tibetan Himalayas, young men and women dance in harmony and with great energy. Extended from their garments are extra long sleeves that they use to create a visual splendor.

He also said that he “thought a lot” about the piece  Nothing Can Block the Divine Path.

Set in contemporary China, this number portrays a family that practices the traditional meditation discipline of Falun Dafa. The mother and daughter are then discovered by the police, and brought to a prison center where they receive extremely cruel treatment, yet the story ends with a message of hope.

“I thought it was brave of them to challenge it.”

Mr. Butler’s teenage daughter Adrianna studies dance, and she was very impressed by “the jumps and leaps” and overall athleticism of the Shen Yun dancers. She also noted “the way that they used their costumes with the [long flowing] sleeves” to express feelings.

Shen Yun Performing Arts International Company will be performing one more show on Saturday at 8 pm and will stage its last show in Denver on Sunday at 2pm.
