BERLIN—As part of its 80-city worldwide tour, Shen Yun Performing Arts came to Berlin’s beloved Friedrichstadtpalast theater on Monday, March 23. Mr. Beck, CEO of a computer company, came to see the performance with his wife.

“This leads human beings beyond, elevates them, and raises them beyond this small earthly existence,” said Mrs. Beck. She was touched by the beauty and spirituality of the lyrics, noting their depiction of “this ancient inner knowing that human beings actually should return home, back to their origin.”

Mr. Beck said, “That it is very beautiful, that the Chinese spirit, [and that] the ancient knowledge of the Chinese has been preserved outside of China. I find it very beautiful that people still cultivate this culture, this spirit, and this content.”

Showcasing works of classical Chinese dance, Shen Yun depicts a wide array of scenes spanning China’s dynasties, ethnic groups, and contemporary society.

Mr. Beck continued: “European dance is much more superficial, more rhythmical. I find it [Chinese dance] much more harmonious, coming from the inside. But the content, conveying the spiritual content of this entire spiritual world, I liked that the most.”

Shen Yun is not only known for its depiction of China’s rich cultural heritage, but also for the ability of its orchestra to provide a harmonious fusion of the Western and Chinese classical instruments.

“This should be [the combination of the instruments] done more often. I find that very interesting. It is very pleasant, because it is always interesting when the Eastern and Western worlds meet,” said Mr. Beck.

His wife agreed. “I find the Western and Eastern elements together very beautiful, wonderful.”
