SYDNEY—Australian Federal and State members have sent their greetings to Shen Yun Performing Arts as the New York-based performance company makes its way through the states’ capitals on its 2010 World Tour.

It is the company’s fourth tour to Australia and this year Australian audiences will be treated to the full Shen Yun Orchestra. Acclaimed worldwide for its unique combination of Chinese and Western instruments, audiences will hear the likes of the stringed pipa and wind suona alongside the traditional strings, brass and wind instruments of the West.

Amongst the well wishers are Anna Bligh, Queensland Premier and Minister for the Arts, Federal representatives:The Hon Tony Abbott MHR, Leader of the Opposition; The Hon Bronwyn Bishop MP, Member for Mackellar (NSW) and The Hon Peter Slipper MP, Member for Fisher (Qld); Senators Sue Boyce and Mark Furner; and many state representatives including Mike Baird, Member for Manly and Ian Cohen MLC, NSW Legislative Council, Alistair Coe MLA from the ACT, Vickie Chapman MP from South Australia, Jenny Mikakos MLC from Victoria and Steve Wettenhall MP from Queensland.

While Shen Yun Performing Arts Company is based in the U.S., its creative inspiration comes from traditional Chinese culture.

According to Shen Yun company manager, Tia Zhang, the company’s mission is “to further this heritage, this treasure of humankind, through the artistic forms of classical and ethnic dance.”

Federal Minister for Financial Services Chris Bowen has been a witness to the company’s development over the four years.

He congratulated the performers for their endeavors, saying China had a rich and deep history.

“The Shen Yun performance brings the ancient Chinese culture to so many thousands of new people. This is something I welcome and encourage,” he said.

Mr. Bowen said Shen Yun’s performance was a testament to the richness of China’s 5,000-year-old culture.

“Anyone interested in Chinese history and culture will love the Shen Yun performance,” he said.
