According to the program, in this dance a mother and daughter performing Falun Gong exercises in a park and are discovered by police. The police carry out orders that are still in effect in China today—to arrest and break the will of anyone who follows this peaceful spiritual discipline. The mother pays the ultimate price for trying to protect her daughter.
The riveting dance jarred free some memories of Tiananmen Square for Mr. Trust. “I once visited the main square in Beijing and experienced a similar situation,” he said. “The police abducted a whole crowd of people. It was a shocking experience and I thought about it when I saw this specific act.” According to Mr. Trust, he believes that it is a matter of political oppression of the people, but the story was also speaking of hope. The act was so profound because the situation is so different in China than in Western countries, where there is freedom and no police brutality, he said.
