SAN FRANCISCO—“It’s a must-see,” said Vickie Wilde, an assistant vice president in finance, after attending a matinee of Shen Yun Performing Arts at the War Memorial Opera House in San Francisco, Jan. 8.

Ms. Wilde said immediately after the performance she would be recommending it to all her social media friends.

“I thought the show was absolutely fantastic and such a surprise,” Ms. Wilde said. “The performers were extremely talented along with the musicians and the set design. It was a wonderful performance.”

Based in New York, Shen Yun artists came from around the globe in 2006 to revive the divinely inspired culture through the universal languages of music and dance.

“I love it; I think it’s very artistic,” said Ms. Louise Ellies, who was also in attendance Wednesday afternoon.

Ms. Ellies said her first experience with classical Chinese dance, which includes many difficult jumping and tumbling techniques—and is where acrobatics and gymnastics originated from—had been phenomenal.

The entire experience had captured her, Ms. Ellies said. “It engages you in a wonderful way.”

Ms. Ellies had heard about Shen Yun in previous years and always wondered about it. This year, she was happy she was able to attend the “wonderful, artistic, cultural experience,” Ms. Ellies said. “It’s lovely.”

“I would highly recommend it,” Ms. Ellies added.

Suzanne Peregoy, a well-published professor of education in San Francisco, had seen Shen Yun for the first time that afternoon as well.

“They are exquisite,” Ms. Peregoy said. Every aspect of the performance had impressed her, including the traditional Chinese dance, brilliant costumes, and music blending East and West—all showing the connection between heaven, earth, and humankind.

“It’s elegant. The choreography is complex and gorgeous, the costumes are incredible, and the colors are beautiful,” Ms. Peregoy said.

“Go see it, now,” Ms. Peregoy concluded.
