TAIPEI, Taiwan—Ms. Gao, originally from Shanghai, China, has lived in Taiwan for about a decade. Upon watching the Divine Performing Arts (DPA) 2009 World Tour show at Taipei Convention Center on Feb. 26, she said, “The spirit of truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance promoted by DPA was very touching.”

“I’ve heard about the stories depicted in the programs, The Monkey King Triumphs, The Poet’s Vision, Monk Ji Gong Abducts the Bride, and Mulan Joins the Battle since I was young. I felt bonded to them when I saw them, as I had nearly forgotten them,” said Ms. Gao, who accompanied her husband to the show.

She said that nowadays some of these tales are no longer heard in China due to the oppressive government. Yet DPA “revived” her memory. “Every program carried very deep embedded meaning.

“Although we aren’t religious in my family, tenor Guan Guimin’s ‘Let Me Not Regret’ just made me believe in gods’ existence. People should not be so stubborn. They should believe and trust.”

Ms. Gao studied the pipa, a Chinese instrument, when she was a child. At some point she had to spend more time on her studies, so she had to stop her lessons. Upon watching DPA, she gained a new perspective. She said that she wants to bring her child to watch the show and pick up the joy of learning again.
