DETROIT, Mi.—Michigan State Senator Martha Scott, marked New Year’s Eve celebrations by attending the Divine Performing Arts 2009 World Tour presentation.
She said, “This show is so very positive at a time when we most need it - it does my heart good.”
Held at Detroit’s Ford Community and Performing Arts Center, Sen. Scott said she braved freezing cold weather just to watch the show after seeing the one held last year at the Detroit Opera House.
“Nothing equals this show,” she said. “The dances just keep getting better and better.”
The DPA performance has its foundation in the divinely inspired ancient Chinese culture, played out in dance, music, song and folk traditions. The land is vast and home to dozens of ethnic groups each uniquely with its own colorful dance technique, dress and music.
The Yi people, in particular, caught the senator’s attention. They hail from southern China, and are apt to seize upon most any occasion to dance out their feelings. Silken rainbow-like skirts mirror the joyful spirit of the Yi women—a whirl of color upon a stage impacted by state-of-the-art animated backdrop.
“You know, I represent a district in Detroit that has many diverse nationalities. I loved the ”Yi Ethnic Dance.” I really liked the colorful skirts.
“All the dances are wonderful. It’s just magnificent. All the messages conveyed are just beautiful.”
