Roxy Music, The xx, and other crowd-pullers like Dizzee Rascal, The Prodigy and Rolf Harris helped sell all the tickets to Bestival 2010 on the Isle of Wight this weekend, Sept. 9-12.
With around 50,000 expected at this year’s festival of fun and music, many had to view The xx’s act on big screens outside the packed Big Top on Friday. Roxy Music played on Saturday as part of the three day line-up.
Gil Scott Heron was backed by an orchestra of vegetables on Friday, and Dizzee anthemed the site with his rendition of “Bonkers”.
As usual, the crowd was full of good humour as the seventh annual Bestival got underway. Just a few days ago The xx won the Mercury Prize and last year Bestival won the best medium-sized festival award again in the UK Festival Awards.
Rolf Harris, Ellie Goulding, Mumford & Sons, and The Flaming Lips wowed the crowds on Saturday, the day of the fancy dress parade with this year’s theme of fantasy. Kate Nash and Prodigy are headlining on Sunday.
“Police have not had to deal with any critical emergencies at Bestival since it started in 2004,” Police Inspector Terry Clawson told ThisIsHampshire.net.
“However, we are never complacent in making thorough plans with our partner agencies to prevent crime and disorder when such a large group of people gather in one place,” he added.
Bestival has set a tradition of being the last festival of the UK music season.
