Rotorua is the spa capital of New Zealand. It is located on the North Island. The original name Rotorua comes from Māori. Roto means lake and rua two – Rotorua thus meaning ‘Second lake’.
Rotorua is known for its volcanic landscapes, hot springs with geysers – notably the Pohutu Geyser at Whakarewarewa and boiling mud pools. This thermal activity is sourced to the Rotorua caldera, on which the town lies and it is attraction for domestic as well as for the international tourists. Town offers many scenic walks to natural beauty as well as to extreme outdoor sports. More than 15 lakes and many rivers complete the picture of a fascinatingly diverse region and it gives visitors an opportunity for fun activities. They can enjoy whitewater rafting, parasailing or take a hike or cycle in near by forest.
Another place which is definitely worth of visiting is The Maori Culture Center in Rotorua. The local tribe is called Ngati Whakaue. The hospitality and generosity of the Ngati Whakaue people makes Rotorua a tourist destination with a tradition of expressive joy and energy.
