SYDNEY—“Great music, and wonderful dancing,” Meg Larken, the chair of Regional Arts New South Wales, said of Shen Yun Performing Arts’ performance. “We are very grateful to have tickets tonight to come and see this, because it’s very new to us and quite different from the things we’ve done.

“I’m learning about the wonderful movement…the movements are different, the music is different and the dancing is just amazing.”

Elizabeth Rogers, CEO of Regional Arts of NSW, said “it’s very beautiful, and the full orchestra in the pit and the dance company it’s amazing.”

Ms. Larken and Ms. Rogers attended opening night of the Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Capitol Theatre in Sydney on Tuesday Feb. 8.

Ms. Larken added, “I’m sure we’d both like to watch it and it is beautiful dancing and very skilled. It is a large company, there must be twenty or so people on stage at any given time. We will tell our friends, we will most definitely tell our friends” [to see the show].

The New York based Shen Yun brings China’s 5000 years of history to the stage through traditional music and dance. It depicts ancient tales, contemporary issues and dances from many ethnic regions. One of the performances ‘Recalling the Great Qin’ brings to life the terracotta army which is currently on exhibition at the NSW Art Gallery.

Ms. Larken appreciated seeing the performance ‘Recalling the Great Qin’ as she had visited the Art Gallery exhibition in the morning.

She was also very interested in the performance depicting present day China’s human rights abuses.
“I do know what’s happening in China”, Ms. Larken said. “What we believe in here [in Australia] is everybody having their family life and the freedom to choose their religion and the freedom to choose their expressions.”

Shen Yun Performing Arts International Company will present performances in Sydney, Australia, at the Capitol Theatre from Feb. 8 to 23. Shen Yun Performing Arts will then travel to Melbourne and Canberra. For more information, visit ShenYunPerformingArts.org
