TAIPEI, Taiwan—Dr. Shi Wenyi, Deputy Director-General of Taiwan’s Centers for Disease Control (CDC), watched the third Divine Performing Arts (DPA) show in Taipei with his wife on the evening of Feb. 27. He praised the show highly, saying, “It is really worth watching!”

Dr. Shi used to be a practicing dentist before taking on a government position. He also has understanding about qigong and cultivation. Consequently, he had quite a unique observation and experience of the show. He felt there was some kind of energy flow circulating in the bodies of the dancing artists, exhibiting smoothness and strength in a very comfortable way.

What especially caught his attention was the artistic presentation of the implications of cultivation throughout the show. As an expert in public health, Dr. Shi said, “If everyone is fortunate enough to practice cultivation or meditation because of attending the show, it will be very beneficial to public health.”

Dr. Shi also gave high praise to the high-tech backdrop design. He considered using motion picture, as the backdrop not only provided the background of the story but also demonstrated outstanding creativity. Referring to Dragon Springs Drummers, which impressed him with the radiating power and joyful facial expressions of the performers, Dr. Shi said, “I took the binoculars from my wife and observed the dancers’ facial expressions. They were fabulous.”

The perfect image of the DPA performers triggered Dr. Shi’s professional interest. He said at the intermission he had already started planning future research. He would like to investigate the health condition and life span of these dancing artists and compare them with the general public. “This is a constrained response because of my profession,” Dr. Shi joked with a smile.

Dr. Shi Wenyi graduated from the Department of Dentistry at Taipei Medical University. He was involved in dental practice for a short time before dedicating himself to public health and epidemic prevention. With solid work experience as well as qualifications, he is a well-known professional in Taiwan’s public health.
