PORTLAND, Ore.—Mr. Azan, a Dubai investor doing business in Portland was pleasantly surprised and captured by the ancient Chinese cultural dancing presented on stage.
“We love it, we’re partly of that world,” he said of the inaugural performance of the Divine Performing Arts (DPA) New Year Spectacular held at Keller Auditorium in Portland.
Mr. Azan mentioned that his culture in Dubai is familiar with the Buddhist themes that are part of the DPA performance and this made him feel right at home.
“The Chinese civilization is one of the oldest in the world and there’s no doubt about how they’ve survived and flourished. It’s very interesting.”
As stated in the program booklet, the mission of the DPA is to, “Rediscover and renew humanity’s true, rightful cultural heritage.” Perhaps there is no place better to draw upon than China’s 5,000 years of divinely inspired culture.
“It’s very nice. It’s another culture. Interesting to learn about another civilization… Wonderful! The performers are very, very nice,” said Mr. Azan.
It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner, or a scholar in Chinese history, the DPA Chinese New Year Spectacular blasts the audience into classical Chinese dances, songs, costumes and legendary story’s that leaves one asking for more.
“The whole theme is interesting. It’s foreign, but it’s something that invokes a sentiment in you, feels good, nice,” said Mr. Azan, adding that one leaves with a comfortable feeling after the show.
Mr. Azan said he felt spiritually connected and would recommend the show to a friend saying with emphasis, “this is something worth watching.”
