NEW YORK—The city’s most important photography show is back at the Park Avenue Armory.

With more than 80 dealers, each displaying frame after frame of mostly monochromatic photos, the experience can easily meld into one black-and-white blur. AIPAD dealers could benefit from clearer curation to distinguish themselves from each other and make the works memorable.

Documentary and studio photography is strongly represented throughout the show, though peppered in were examples of the photo as sculptural element and the camera as a tool in creating what look like modern paintings. Photos were incorporated into a few video installations.

On Saturday, April 12, four panel discussions about curating, collecting, and social issues will be held at Hunter College.

The AIPAD Photography Show takes place at the Park Avenue Armory April 10–13. Admission is $30 daily or $50 for the run of the show. Students pay $10. aipad.com/photoshow
