PASADENA, Calif.—Pasadena Civic Auditorium was full for the Friday afternoon performance by Divine Performing Arts.

“Fabulous” said Mr. Amini, who came with his artist wife and their son, “It’s an ancient culture. We came from an ancient culture also. I’m Iranian and Persian. We enjoyed it very much. It’s one of the best shows I’ve ever seen.”

“Each individual program was good. Not just a single one of them. All of them were good.”

Mr. Amini, a Management Systems Analyst, felt his ancient culture was profoundly shaped by China’s culture.

“We came from the same culture actually. You can say that, because thousands of years ago, we had trades with other. Our cultures have interacted with each other. We’re in the same background. We came from a Chinese culture like Chinese do. We understand each other perfectly. Here [America] is a capitalist country with a new history. We came from an ancient culture that has been built over thousands of years. It’s not new. So spiritually we’re more strongly bonded together. Especially people from the east have more value of life itself, the family and the people. We are from the same culture and we respect each other. We respect the Chinese and the culture of the world.”

He continued, “Actually it’s done in such a way that each one has a message. We got the message. The message is happiness, and bringing happiness and joy to everybody. And it’s an excellent view of life itself. It’s one of the best shows I’ve ever seen [The] performers especially—the colors of their costume, the colors of the background, the music. It’s excellent.”

Ms. Amini paints still life, human figures, and landscapes.  She said that she noticed great differences between the art presented on the stage and modern art, be it visual art, performing arts, or music.

She said, “In my idea, there is a huge difference between Chinese culture and American culture... I’m so surprised that I see the beautiful culture that you have. I’m very appreciative of that.”

“My favorite part of the show is the background. The colors inspired me very much. And I think in my recent painting I create in my mind. This helps me very much to create more light color. That makes it very delightful view,” said the painter.

She said that the scenery was very meditative for her, giving her a feeling of tranquility and joy, a feeling she called spiritual.

“The dances and background match each other very much. Spiritually, I’m so happy. Spiritually it made me so happy,” she said.
