OTTAWA—City councillor Georges Bedard said seeing Shen Yun Performing Arts last year was enough to guarantee his return when the group once again graced the stage at the National Arts Centre on Sunday
“I was so excited by it last year that this year, when I heard that it was coming back, I wanted to come back and do it again,” he said.
Mr. Bedard, who represents Ottawa’s Rideau-Vanier Ward, has been actively involved in community affairs as a citizen and a city councillor for over thirty years.
He also sits on the board of the Ottawa Congress Centre and is a member of the Community and Protective Services Committee and the Transit and Transportation Committee of the City of Ottawa.
“I thought the show was phenomenal. I thought the presentation was extremely well done. The colours were … radiant. And of course the dancers and music all blended well to give us quite a show, quite a performance. I was extremely pleased.”
Mr. Bedard extended his appreciation and congratulations to the organizers of the show, saying Shen Yun is “helping people understand each other.”
“To me it was awe-inspiring because what was being presented was something traditional to China and obviously we in Canada are not accustomed to the traditional Chinese presentations, so for me it was an education,” he said.
Mr. Bedard particularly enjoyed two of the dances in the show: Dance of the Dai and the Tibetan Dance of Praise. In these two pieces, the performers aim to capture the unique spirit and traditional style of the diverse ethnic regions in China.
He said these dances allowed the audience to understand better by “living through the culture.”
“The whole show was worth seeing, enjoying, and living through, because it was, in many respects, presenting the cultural aspects and it’s always good,” Mr. Bedard enthused.
