KAOHSIUNG, Taiwan—Ms. Huang Shu-Lian, an oil painter and director of alumni clubs of National Taiwan University of Arts, watched Shen Yun Performing Arts International Company’s show on April 9. She praised the show, saying, “[It is] beyond beautiful! The color-matching was incredible and the background animation was out-of-this-world!”
Ms. Huang was very drawn to the brilliant colors and the ingenious color-matching of the costumes. “The matching of colors was based on contrast and it was presented in a soft and subtle way. The female artists’ costumes are unbelievably beautiful!” Ms. Huang said.
She was very excited to be able to see classical Chinese dance. She loved the female dancers’ elegant style, and was most impressed by the beauty and drama in Plum Blossom, Manchurian Elegance, and the humor in Little Mischievous Monks.
“I am so overwhelmed,” Ms. Huang said about the final piece, The Opening of Heaven’s Gates. “When the tsunami hit, Buddha descended to save the people. I could hear my heart beating during that scene.”
“With the live orchestra, it truly made me feel that I was in the story,” she said.
Ms. Huang was inspired by Shen Yun’s use of color and it will “definitely help” with her painting, she added.
“I will come to see the show every year and will bring my friends!”
New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts has three touring companies that perform simultaneously around the world. For more information, visit ShenYunPerformingArts.org
