Barbie makeover was intended to create the average proportions of a 19-year-old American woman.
Lamm, an artist from Pittsburgh, suggests that the popular doll should get a revision to reflect the way a normal person her age looks, reported Stuff.co.nz.
Lamm got his data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in coming up with his version of the Barbie, which has had the same figure for 54 years. Many have criticized the doll’s proportions, saying they are unrealistic and promote girls’ worrying about their weight.
“A lot of people say we shouldn’t criticize Barbie because she is a toy,” Lamm told the website. “However, if there’s a small chance that it’s negatively affecting young girls, and if normal Barbie looks awesome, why not create normal Barbie?”
He said that if Barbie were a real person, she would weigh 100 pounds, have a 16-inch waist, and would be six-feet-tall, according to KTNV-TV.
“If we criticize skinny models, we should at least be open to the possibility that Barbie may negatively influence young girls as well,” Lamm told the Huffington Post. “Furthermore, a realistically proportioned Barbie actually looks pretty good.”
