SPOKANE, Wash.—New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts’ Spring Tour 2009 show opened at the Spokane INB Performing Arts Center, formerly known as the Spokane Opera House, on May 21. Ms. Bu, a new immigrant from China, could not stop praising the show and felt very proud of the traditional Chinese culture it presented.

Ms. Bu arrived from Liaoning Province nine months ago. Exceptionally tall and with a refined manner, she easily stood out from the crowd. “The show was spectacular! I am extremely proud to be Chinese!” she said with a big smile.

She especially liked the last dance, Victory Drums. “[It is] very exciting! Dance and drum were combined very well together, and I liked it very much!”

She said, “ I was very impressed by the dance Monkey King Triumphs. That a story can be told in such clear detail only by dance is quite amazing! The dancers need to have extraordinary skills to achieve this.

“The dancers are so spirited and lively, and their skills are so high! They’re really the pride of the Chinese!

“I’m from China, and therefore I am very impressed by the Chinese dances in the show. For example, the handkerchief dance and the fan dance fully expressed the beauty and elegance of Chinese dance. I came from the northeastern part of China, and the handkerchief dance was so authentic that it gave me the feeling of my native land.”

The dance Forsythia in Spring showed the blossoming of flowers and the spirit of spring with the movements of the handkerchiefs.

She ended the interview with lighthearted laughter, saying, “I am feeling proud!”
