HSINCHU, Taiwan—Taiwan’s national heirloom painter Mr. Lai has been devoted to painting for over sixty years. He attended the showing of the New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Hsinchu Municipal Performance Hall on March 21. He said, “Very Beautiful! It is really flawless!”

White-haired Mr. Lai, age 83, always wore affable and kind expressions which softened his facial lines. In his interview during the intermission, he appeared radiant and full of vitality, his hearty laughter ringing out once in a while. “I am really moved. The dancing, backdrops, and costumes are really flawless!” he said.

The works of Mr. Lai have been exhibited frequently in Taiwan and abroad, in the United States, Japan, South Korea, and also in the Salon d’Automne in France, an exhibition of world importance. He is the current executive director of the Oil Art Society of the Republic of China. Also, he’s an art appraiser associated with the Appraisal Board of the Taiwan Art Society. He has earned a strong reputation in artistic circles for his contributions in promoting and laying the foundation of art education in Taiwan.

Mr. Lai was deeply touched by the Shen Yun show that illustrates divine culture through classical Chinese dance. Impressed with the application of backdrops to extend the stage, he said, “This is something of great creativity. Few have ever done this.

“The cut and design of the costumes along with matching of colors are very beautiful.”

Mr. Lai appreciated and greatly admired the designs of the backdrops. He repeatedly said he was touched by Shen Yun: “People of all ages will be touched. I believe so.

“We who create beauty are really inspired by the show!”
