CHICAGO—“It was very beautiful! The costumes where especially beautiful and the coordination on stage was quite stunning,” said music conductor and Schaumberg resident, Mr. Voelker after seeing Divine Performing Arts.

Mr. Voelker said that one of his many Chinese friends invited him to see the show at Chicago’s Civic Opera house on Saturday, December 27. While he was delighted by the entire performance, his favorite was a time-honored Chinese tale.

Mr. Voelker laughed as he described the story: one in which a crazy monk saves a wedding party, “Monk Ji Gong Abducts the Bride.”

As a music conductor, Mr. Voelker noticed the difference in the orchestra.

He said: “It is a typical Western orchestra, blended with a traditional Chinese influence.” He especially liked the addition of the erhu [a two stringed Chinese fiddle.] “It was so nice.”

Mr. Voelker was also impressed with the production’s colorful costumes. “The flowing skirts, the pants … it’s amazing that every costume is hand made by the dance company. It was well done, very well done.”

Mr. Voelker attended the performance with his friend, Mr. Niu, a native of northern China. “This was very impressive. The dancers were beautiful and I liked the erhu performance most of all.” Mr. Niu was also taken by singer Hong Ming. He said the famous tenor really moved him.

Each gentleman said he wished all his Chinese friends could see the show.
