A mother had the perfect plan to surprise her daughter: she took a selfie in her dorm room.

However, there was one big problem with that.

The mom, Deanna Pilling, actually took a selfie inside another’s bed. It wasn’t even in the same dorm room.

“Imagine ‘The Absent-Minded Professor,’” she told TODAY. “I’m a little bit like that, with a big heart. I get myself into weird situations sometimes, unknowingly.”

She surprised her daughter, McKenna Pilling, by arriving a day early to help her pack up her dorm room.

Pilling went into the room, and she noticed that the decorations were stripped off the walls and boxes everywhere.

“Instead of standing there and waiting, I thought, ‘Oh what a comfortable bed. I’ll lay on it and wait for her,'” Deanna added. “Every dorm room looked exactly the same. In my mind, I was perfectly confident this was her bed.”

She then took the selfie, which was posted on Twitter and liked and shared 35,000 times. “I am in the wrong dorm omg,” she wrote.

“Every time I refresh my feed more retweets/favorites pop up, and now all my mom has to say is, ‘I wish I would’ve taken a better picture,’” McKenna told Buzzfeed News.
