Though kerchunking strings and John Anderson (Yes)-alike vocals on ‘Early Morning’ promise the skies, the nostalgia wears right off by the end of this first track. Experimental orchestration fails to overcome incongruence between music and subject matter coz you just can’t swap guitars for violins and cellos and still come out with a pop feel. There are no licks, no hooks, no spontaneity and therefore no discernible soul. Over-composed, by track eight this album gets right on your nerves as the lyrics reach desperation point, listing days of the week with no clue to what the song’s about.
