NEW YORK—There were some losses over the long weekend, Bobby Flay’s Mesa Grill on Union Square closed after a 22-year run.

The grill closed due to a rent increase, reported Grub Street. The furniture and panini grills at Southwestern American went up for auction, although the chef still holds hope in re-opening at a new location in Manhattan.

Flay and business partner Laurence Kretchmer will open Gato early next year at 324 Lafayette Street. It will serve Mediterranean-influenced Spanish dishes.
