MISSISSAUGA, Canada—“It’s such a beautiful show,” said Mayor of Mississauga Hazel McCallion at a VIP reception after seeing Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Living Arts Centre on Friday night. With a population of almost 800,000, Mississauga is Canada’s sixth-largest city, and also home to one of Canada’s largest corporate and financial districts.

“This show is exceptional and I am absolutely delighted as mayor that it is being held at the Living Art Center. The house is packed, isn’t that great?”

Mayor McCallion went on to say that Shen Yun, a New York-based performing arts company, put on “a beautiful presentation.”

“The performance is exceptional. It’s precise, so well coordinated, as well as the beautiful colours. The costumes are just outstanding—very colourful but very gentle. What a great presentation, and having the opportunity for the Mississauga people to come and watch the show is exceptional.”

Shen Yun is known for its efforts to bring traditional Chinese culture to life through classical Chinese dance and presenting it to audiences around the world.

“The Chinese are very colourful people, very dedicated, and I am so proud of all the Chinese living in Mississauga,” said the mayor.

Mayor McCallion said it was an honour to have Shen Yun play in Mississauga.

“What a treat! You know what is wonderful about the Chinese, is when there is an event on they come out, and they really came out tonight. But more than Chinese came out; it’s a very famous show and a lot of people are showing up.”

She thanked Shen Yun for choosing Mississauga and invited them back next year.

“Because The Living Arts Centre only holds 1,200 people, and we have 740,000 in Mississauga, so you can come back many years, and give more of the population of Mississauga such an outstanding treat. It was wonderful. Everybody will leave the facility tonight inspired and will have beautiful thoughts as they go to bed tonight. Isn’t that wonderful.”

After playing two more shows in Mississauga on Saturday, Shen Yun International Company will tour parts of the United States before returning to western Canada in March for shows in Calgary, Edmonton, Regina, Winnipeg and Vancouver.
