NEWARK, NJ—After attending the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular performance at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, the Mayor of Denville, Ted Hussa, said it was the “best example of Chinese culture.”

“[The show was] very well done. Magnificent. Amazing. Loved it. I always enjoy everything Chinese, because [the] Chinese do everything first grade. Very enjoyable,” he said in an interview taken during the intermission.

Mr. Hussa also appreciated the ancient traditions of the Chinese culture portrayed through the show.

“America is made up of all kinds of cultures… but in particular tonight at [the] Chinese New Year, I support Chinese culture because it’s just a very beautiful and wonderful civilization.”

The Mayor of Denville commented that the Chinese Spectacular re-enforced his love of Chinese culture, adding that the show itself was “exquisite.”

He added that one of the performances portrayed the modern history of China through the story of a family being broken up due to the persecution of the Falun Gong spiritual discipline.

The performance,  Heaven Awaits Us Despite Persecution, tells the story of a father who is persecuted for his belief in Falun Gong in China and of the little girl who is orphaned as a result. Similar scenarios are common across China today, where over 100,000 Falun Gong practitioners have been jailed.

“[In America] we hold family values very high. We would not encourage families to be broken up,” he said.

The show continues in Newark with two shows on Tuesday Jan. 27, at 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
