LateNightTales sees famous musicians and DJs put together afterhours selections, ending with a piece of spoken word.
It’s a risky move that has brought patchy results, although Lindstrom’s superb Balearic disco release was a high watermark.
Matt Helders, drummer with the Arctic Monkeys, might claim DJing roots, but his selection is uninspired and badly programmed. It flits from the British funk of Little Barrie to the down-n-dirty rock of the Stooges, with plenty of UK and US hip hop in between.
Trouble is, there’s little to link the disparate genres, although it’s good to hear Roots Manuva’s ‘Dreamy Days’ and Mos Def’s ‘Ms Fat Booty’ again.
